Building Muscle For Skinny Guys – What Not To Do

Building muscle for skinny guys has also been a difficult thing and has earned the nickname “hard gainers” in the bodybuilding industry. The same industry is always trying to sell you more supplements, exercise methods and machines and revolutionary diets but rarely do they ever say what not to do as this sounds like a negative message in a very positively focused area. How to gain mass however needs to be tempered with knowledge of the pitfalls of various methods and the truth about your skinny body type also known as an “ectomorph”.

If you want to know how to build muscle quickly then first you must realize that a skinny body is a blessing and a curse. You can avoid ever gaining fat because of an overactive metabolism but you will also find the same metabolism sabotages your efforts to gain mass fast because the nutrients you need to build muscle are metabolized too fast and end up leaving you protein and carb deficient. Add to this poor workout methods by most ectomorphs who base their methods for gaining muscle off “easy gainers” and end up failing and giving up we have a recipe for misinformation. So if you want to have quick muscle gain first do not do these things!

* DO NOT workout too much – Muscle need time to rest too! Hitting the gym every day may feel like the extra effort will allow faster muscle growth but in fact you are doing yourself a disservice and retarding your growth because of it. To heal and grow muscles need to rest and repair so try only working out 2-3 times a week instead of 5-7!
* Do NOT think more reps equals more mass – The amount of reps you do on your weight lifting has nothing to do with how much muscle you build. Skinny types especially get little out of a lot of repetitions, instead as an ectomorph you should be focused on more weight. Less reps with a good weight to challenge your muscles is needed to build muscles quickly and while you might feel like you have done less work sometimes you will get better results.
* DO NOT believe that longer is better – The length of your workout does not mean it is better or more efficient. Intensity is much more important than going at a steady pace. A shorter more intense workout using the tips above too will help an great deal to build muscle mass.
* DO NOT think supplements solve your problems – Supplements have their place but eating properly for your body type is a much more effective tool for building muscle for skinny guys! The fact is you need to eat more and eat more of the right things such as proteins and carbs from a variety of sources and supplements do not enhance this a great deal and they are not a magic fix.
